I had high hopes for a fulfilling dinner at Swami’s Satvik Restaurant, but unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. The first disappointment came with the aamras, which was stale, blackened, and had a questionable smell. While Alphonso mangoes are undeniably expensive, charging Rs. 150 for a single bowl without refills is excessive, especially when the quality is compromised. The thali itself was underwhelming. The masala bhat portion was surprisingly small, served in a tiny bowl, and yet refills were not an option. A thali concept usually includes unlimited servings, allowing diners to enjoy a satisfying meal, but this restaurant seems to have skipped that tradition. To make matters worse, even the curd salad was stale and carried an unpleasant smell. When dining out, one expects fresh, flavorful food, but Swami’s Satvik Restaurant failed to deliver. Overall, what was supposed to be a pleasant dinner turned into a disappointing experience. If the restaurant is charging premium prices, the least they can do is ensure freshness and adequate portions. Until these issues are addressed, I wouldn’t recommend dining here. I saw someone describe this place as an “overpriced bachelor’s mess” — and at first, I kind of agreed. The place does feel like a fancier version of a typical mess. It’s clean, the kitchen is closed off, so it gives you that impression of hygiene — though I couldn’t peek inside, so can’t be sure about the actual setup. I had the thali here today, priced at ₹280, and initially, that felt a bit much for a simple meal. The food reminded me of what we used to get in our engineering hostel mess on Sundays — familiar, comforting, but not mind-blowing. The thali had aamras, chapati, batata bhaji, varan, and bhat. But then I remembered — just yesterday I had guacamole at a mall, which is basically just thecha in fancier clothes, and I paid ₹175 per avocado for that. In that context, this thali — with creamy, rich aamras (which was quite good, even if it wasn’t exactly like the traditional kind I grew up eating) — actually seemed like decent value. The food isn’t extraordinary, but it’s not bad either. You’re also paying for the location — Wakad isn’t cheap — and the place has a calm, neat vibe where the crowd doesn’t overwhelm you. So maybe price alone shouldn’t be the deciding factor. Just a heads up: the “Satvik” in the name might give you the impression of traditional, simple home-style meals — like the kind my friend’s mom used to serve with varan-bhat, batata bhaji, and fresh chapatis made with tup — but that’s not quite what you get here. The food is good, just not that kind of Satvik. Overall, I’d rate it 4/5. Not a must-visit, but if you’re nearby and want a peaceful place to eat at a slight premium, it’s worth checking out.
