Detailed review: Hotel Sreedevi I recently had the opportunity to dine at Hotel Sreedevi, a well-known vegetarian restaurant, and I left with mixed feelings. This is a place that has been around for quite some time, and while the age of the establishment shows, they have made an effort to keep things neat and clean, considering the limitations of an older structure. The ambiance can be described as just decent—not the best, but comfortable enough for a casual meal. It certainly has a nostalgic charm, but it could use some renovations to bring it up to modern standards. Food: The highlight of my meal was the ghee roast, which was excellent. The dosa was crispy and flavorful, matching the quality you’d expect at a place like Saravana Bhavan. I was impressed by how well they’ve maintained the authentic taste, even though most of the staff seemed to be from outside Kerala. They are doing a commendable job of preparing the food in a traditional way, which adds to the authenticity of the dining experience. However, the chapathi was a letdown. It lacked the softness and texture I expected, leaving me disappointed. On the brighter side, the poori masala was enjoyable—the poori was light and fluffy, and the masala had a good balance of spices. It was a comforting dish that didn’t disappoint. The coffee was also fine, nothing extraordinary, but satisfying enough to complement the meal. Service: One of the things I appreciated most about Hotel Sreedevi was the service. The staff were polite, attentive, and efficient. They handled everything smoothly, without any noticeable delays in taking orders or serving food. I had an interesting experience when I ordered an extra vada. After it was served, I decided to cancel the order because the vada had too much oil. The staff accepted the cancellation with a polite smile and without any fuss, which I found impressive. It’s rare to see such customer-friendly attitudes these days. Pricing: In terms of pricing, Hotel Sreedevi offers good value for money. The prices are reasonable and affordable for the average person, especially given the quality of the food and the overall dining experience. It’s not a place that will break the bank, which makes it a good option for regular dining or even for travelers looking for a decent vegetarian meal. Parking: One major downside is the parking situation. Unfortunately, the restaurant does not have dedicated parking, so guests are forced to park their vehicles on the street. This can be particularly inconvenient for those arriving in four-wheelers, such as families or pilgrimage groups. It’s challenging to find space, and maneuvering larger vehicles on the busy street is a hassle. However, if you’re on a two-wheeler, parking should be manageable. Overall Verdict: While Hotel Sreedevi may not boast the best ambiance, it makes up for it with its authentic vegetarian food and excellent service. I would particularly recommend the ghee roast and poori masala, but caution against ordering the chapathi. The staff’s friendliness and efficiency added to the positive experience, but the lack of proper parking and the need for renovations are areas where the restaurant could improve. If you’re looking for a place with decent food and polite service, and you don’t mind the street parking or the slightly aged interiors, Hotel Sreedevi is worth a visit. With a few updates to the ambiance and better parking facilities, this restaurant could become a much more attractive dining option for both locals and visitors alike.
