Horrible service: I think that sums up my review. Food, ambiance and all other things can be ignored for this place. Never in my life have I come across worse service in dining experience. We almost had to shout at the staff to get our food delivered and almost had to walk out midway during the meal.
There was one waiter and by the service they provided I think he was the one cooking and serving food.
The plates used for serving were not clean and even the table was all filthy.

Food quality was also below average. Aloo posto didn't taste good.  Daal was too thick and rice were sticky. I am not going into details of food.
Please avoid this place at all costs if you care for hygiene, taste, service and self respect.

On the day, we were extremely hungry and we went into Sonar Bangla with the hope that the food will be quick to be served. However, those were not to be as the service is excrutiatingly slow and they had to be reminded consistently about the items that we had orders. The taste was average - being a bengali restaurant, the taste of the food needs to make the eyes water with the level of spice in them. However, that was not to be. Their spicest food did not even warrant us to ask for water.
My wife tried the Kabiraji and Prawn Cutlet - it took 45 minutes to get this on the table and tasted pretty average. The kabiraji left a lot to be desired. Then we tried the Lucchi and Kacha Lonka Murgi. Whilst the Lucchi was good (a dish that should never go wrong), the Kacha Lonka Murgi (Green Chilli Chicken) had no Kacha Lonka in them. The taste was average as well.
Bengali's are crazy about sweets so naturally, we tried to have the misti doi but were thoroughly disappointed with the curd served - nothing sweet about it. My wife tried a few other sweets but they were average to taste as well. Barring the Nolen Gud Roshogulla, we could not find the sweets to remind us of Kolkata.
We tried the restaurant another day for a home delivery. I tried the Mughlai Parantha on that day - I was throughly disappointed with the item I got which they call Mughlai Parantha - hardly any stuffing inside.
Overall, average - I would go back only for the Roshogulla.

Had a quick visit to this eatery few months back. Will elaborate on the review after trying out all (atleast few more) their dishes, as of now I had just tried their sweet dishes and they were not bad. Being a bengali myself, the sweets available in Kolkata can never be found elsewhere but this can be termed as a home away from home (for bengali mishti lovers). The place was not that big but I really appreciated the wall having all the snippets of old bengali cinema biggies - Ray, Uttam, Suchitra, Madhabi, Soumitra, etc. Tries to capture the true smell and spirit of bengal in some way.
