Simply Madras near Surat Airport is a restaurant branded as a South Indian dining spot, but based on my personal experience, it falls short of expectations in several key areas. The basic taste of sambhar and rasam, which are signature South Indian dishes, was not up to the mark—they tasted like what you might find in any standard restaurant, lacking the authentic depth and spice balance typical of traditional recipes. Portion sizes were noticeably small, leaving one wanting more rather than feeling satisfied. The quality of the food items was also inconsistent. For example, the wadas, which should be soft and fluffy, felt rubbery and unappetizing, a major disappointment for a dish that plays a central role in South Indian cuisine. The texture issues with the wadas affected the overall dining experience negatively. In terms of ambiance, while the place is clean and has a simple décor aimed at offering a cozy atmosphere, the food quality did not match this comfortable setting. Service during my visit was standard but nothing to praise or complain about. Overall, I would not recommend Simply Madras if you are looking for authentic, well-prepared South Indian food near Surat Airport. The restaurant needs improvement in the taste and quality of its core dishes and portion sizes to truly satisfy customers craving genuine South Indian flavors. Food was fresh and warm. Sambhar was balanced.. neither too spicy not bland nor very sour.. ghee roast and thatte idli were quite good
