Right after seeing The Step Well - Toorji Ka Jhalara, come for a meal. The menu of Chinese and Indian cuisines provide flavorsome food at this restaurant. To taste perfectly cooked pasta, omelettes and chicken is a truly good idea. You can order good banana pancakes. Try delicious beer. The rooms at Shivam are clean and tidy with comfortable beds, Wi fi, TV, complete with a separate bathroom and HOT shower. Prices are very reasonable and everyone speaks competent English. Raj, the owner/manager and his wife and 2 older children are a delightful family who all work hard to provide a consistent and valued service. Their rooftop Cafe has the most AMAZING views of the famous Blue city and the massive Fort in the background. Many interesting clients come regularly to savour a wide variety of delicious menu choices, all very reasonably priced and all cooked by Raj and his wife. It is nice to be surrounded by a family that care about their guests. I had the good fortune to sit up with Raj, one night, till 3 am, engaging in a deep philosophical and spiritual discussion. He has a very interesting history and a deep sense of integrity with strong moral principles. This is what underlies the strength of this successful business. Heart and Soul. I also had the joy of meeting his wider family of siblings, during my stay. Which brings me to Akhil, their waiter. Akhil is a real gem. He goes about his work, quietly and methodically, preparing tables, delivering meals and cleaning up afterwards, engaging in polite conversation when necessary. However, during a quiet break, I discovered to my pleasant surprise, a highly intelligent and knowledgeable personality. We discussed a wide range of subjects from psychology, history, philosophy, to the many movies we had enjoyed. I was reminded of the expression, "Still waters run deep." To sum up, “Shivam,” earns a BIG thumbs-up from me for comfort, price, meals, service, atmosphere, reliability, and integrity Vegetarian options: The menu is all vegetarian apart from the egg options. Many restaurants in India are purely vegetarian. Some will serve sggs. At Shivam, there is a huge delicious menu selection, spiced or non spiced. The kitchen will support special dietary options if required. I discovered the Chinese options are non spiced. Lovely people. Great service.
