One of the oldest restaurants situated directly opposite Matunga railway station, this storied eatery transports you back in time the moment you step through its doors. The quaint, vintage ambience sets the stage for a truly traditional Mangalorean and South Indian experience. Unlike the typical sweetened versions found in local Udupi joints, the sambar and rasam here are deeply authentic. Even the upma stays true to tradition, served without a trace of added sugar. It is a soul satisfying meal delivered with impressively brisk service. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner Recommendation for vegetarians: Highly recommend Vegetarian offerings: Menu is all vegetarian Vegetarian options: Pure vegetarian south indian restaurant. Parking space: Difficult to find parking Parking options: Free of charge street parking Parking: It's a very busy street opp the railway station, so parking is difficult here.

Sharda Bhavan located opposite Matunga Central Railway Station, in Matunga is an iconic, traditional South Indian restaurant established nearly 80 years ago, known for it’s authentic and economical vegetarian food, particularly it’s ghee podi dosa and filtered coffee.

it’s a popular and hygienic spot for a quick bite or a satisfying meal, with prompt service and popular dishes like filter coffee and neer dosa.

Today morning we tried this joint for the first time to try authentic South Indian staples. Firstly there was a big line to get into the restaurant and after a wait for 20mins, entered the restaurant for eating. It offers a simple, unpretentious atmosphere with an old-world charm.

We had ordered steaming hot idlis, cotton soft Neer Dosa, piping hot Filter Coffee. Food was served within 5 mins by courteous staff, who were serving with a smile. The food was very comforting and full of authentic flavours.

For those seeking a genuine South Indian culinary experience in Mumbai, Sharda Bhavan stands out as a noteworthy choice. It’s enduring popularity underscores its commitment to traditional flavours.
