I recently visited Shakila Bhai for dinner, and I am compelled to share my deeply disappointing experience. The restaurant was in an appalling state—far from being just unclean, it was absolute filth. The washbasin area was littered and disgustingly unhygienic, making it an unpleasant environment even before ordering. The worst moment came while we were eating: a bandicoot rat was spotted loitering freely in the dining area. Needless to say, we immediately stopped eating and left the premises. Such conditions are unacceptable for any dining establishment, let alone one with a 40-year legacy. It is clear that the management thrives on past glory and has a complete disregard for customer safety and hygiene. Places like these are precisely where food safety officers should conduct strict inspections and, if necessary, shut down operations to protect public health. I strongly urge people to avoid Shakila Bhai. The management seems solely concerned with profits, with customers’ health and well-being at risk. I enjoyed the age old Shakila Biryani experience. Most of Pondy foodies would have liked the Parotas more at the old Shakila hotel. I liked them too. But it was the biryani which I used to like even more. And the gravy too. This Shakila Bhai Saffar dining took me back to those good old days (remember that scene from Ratatouille where young Ego stands in front of his mom!). Cost wise, it is a steal compared to the other so called "world famous" and "world's best" biryani shops that charge over 300 or 400 for a plate of Mutton biryani. We must promote our local talent when in our hometown. Occasional drifting towards outsiders' hotels is okay but majority of our eating must be in our own home grown, and not so well known but of high quality at the same time, sort of restaurants. We can enjoy a Dindigul or Ambur or Madurai or Coimbatore or Chennai biryani when we visit those cities. When at home, let's be home food freaks! Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: ₹200–400
