Ram Ashraya is an old joint famous for its South Indian ( Udupi style ) vegetarian fare. It is one of the few places that is open as early as 5 AM. Nice food but limited menu options. Service is polite & attentive. The Upma sheera is outstanding.

Ram Ashraya opens at 5:30 am in the morning, and there is actually a queue on weekends before it even opens. Famous for its upma and sheera, its most popular dosa is the Mysore Rava dosa which remains crisp and warm even if you take a parcel and have it after an hour. .

RAM ASHRAYA is a typical Udipi setup, which really good ones have been vanishing due to rising rentals and various operational issues. It was full of people sipping Kapi and digging in idlis and dosas and also their epic pineapple sheera. This place is an absolute delight for South Indian cuisine lover. Located right opposite Matunga central station, this spot is in the bustling lanes leading to the station. This place has no menu hence orders are taken in old school way which is personally also the menu changes daily. We ordered chocolate sheera, pudi dosa & filter coffee. The food was great in taste but the service kind of lagged and this was the only dark spot on our experience. It’s just outside Matunga Rd train station’s east exit and draws Mumbaikars of all persuasions.
