So, I have been rather a big fan of portico affair's zomato deliveries. I think their corn cheese paratha is quite an innovative twist on the traditional style parathas and is probably the 'best' paratha you would have in Cuttack. So why the 1 star? Coz the portico affair we visited was like the evil twin of the one delivering in Zomato.
Let's cut to the chase. The dining experience was awful and the same dishes that were lip-smackingly good were almost unrecognizable. Corn cheese paratha didn't have any cheese whatsoever. Instead it had corn aloo masala which was overly salty and spicy. The undercooked parathas had layers as thick as that of a rhino's skin. Add to that the absence of sides (no chutney) and we were looking at disaster served in our plate.
What followed was no less disastrous! The waiter would babble some clichéd lines when we complained about the food. When we can't take it anymore we asked to have a word with the manager. But they had the audacity to say that s/he was busy doing some work! At this point we almost felt bad for this promising looking place. But wait, the pinnacle of disaster was yet to come. And that was in the form of the bill. The price of the paratha was 20 rupees more than the listed price in zomato (oh did I say they didn't even have a proper menu and more than half the items were unavailable and some of the available ones were missing from the list?). When I pointed out this discrepancy they came up with some laughable excuses like 'zomato re discount thiba'. What! In that case the dining prices must be even lower dumbo! ?. Anyway, that concluded our evening of a traumatic dining experience.
I have absolutely nothing against these guys. Portico's have been my go to restaurant for ordering snacks. But I was little baffled seeing the contradicting reviews for dining(3.1) vs delivery(3.8). Sure the ambience isn't good but I have never been an ambience-guy. So, I gave the reviews a benefit of doubt thinking how bad can it be after all! Turns out, it's almost a different restaurant when we compare dining vs delivery and the dining rating of 3.1 is rather generous.
I'm disappointed beyond words and I say that after writing a thousand word review!
