Padma Restaurant on College Street is one of those rare old-school gems in Kolkata that still holds on to the charm of the city’s iconic cabin culture. Nestled close to the book market and Presidency University, it’s a humble, no-frills eatery serving authentic Bengali snacks and meals at extremely affordable prices. If you’re nostalgic about Kolkata's food heritage, this place won’t disappoint. I ordered the Fish fry (bhetki) and Mutton kosha with Paratha, both of which were excellent in taste and quantity. The fish fry was crispy and flavorful — clearly not made with cheap basa, which is a big plus. The mutton was soft and cooked in a rich, traditional Bengali-style gravy. You can also try the egg devil, veg chop, and mughlai paratha - all of which are crowd favorites. Most dishes are freshly prepared and served hot, which adds to the satisfaction. The ambience is simple and functional, not fancy but that’s exactly what you’d expect from a cabin-style eatery. One important point: they do not accept any form of UPI, card, or digital payment. It's strictly cash only, so make sure you carry enough before visiting. Overall, a great spot for a quick, satisfying meal under ₹200. A must-visit for lovers of traditional Bengali food. --- Let me know if you want a shorter version or a version for Zomato too! Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3
