As soon as I took out the pizza base packs (one large and one small), to my utter shock I found the larger pizza base heavily infected with fungus. Then I checked the smaller pack. I noticed moisture inside the cellophane pack and found the two pieces wet and sticky.
Absolutely shocking that such an old and renowned pastry shop is selling stale products without least hitch. While ordering I had specifically asked the counter guy to give me fresh bases and cheese. The pizza cheese pack shows packaging date but the same was missing from both the pizza base packs and the topping jar. How legal is this, I wonder!
It was already too late to go back and return the whole stuff or seek explanation from their manager. I'll do that tomorrow and let's know what they do/say. Their manager (a short lean lady whom I'm seeing for over two decades now) is generally not there in the early mornings. I don't think they would have a complaint book for customers to register such complaints.
Seeing is believing, they say. So, I'm attaching some photos. You may notice fungus infected larger bases and moist and sticky (whitish) smaller base with the bill of the purchases.
Through this site, I wish that the matter be bought to the notice of the management of Nathu's and also of the public who puts faith in their repute and brand and buys products from them. Disappointing!!!
I've been visiting this place since 1991, to be specific. You may guess how cheated I feel as a regular customer who absolutely loves their pastries, cakes, sandwiches, cookies, jujubes, muffins, and pizza ingredients!!!!!
Yesterday (nearly 12 hours back) I went to Nathu's Pastry Shop in Bengali Market to buy pastries, pizza base packs, pizza cheese and topping for making pizza at home. After reaching home I refrigerated all the items. My mom is fond of Nathu's pizza topping, so I buy all the stuff from there only. I wanted to pamper my mom. I invited a friend also to enjoy pizza at my place. Very enthusiastically, I diced capsicums, onions and tomatoes to top the pizzas.
