I visited Narasimha Vilas Military Hotel in Chengalpattu, which is a very old and traditional place (around 75 years). It has that typical military-hotel vibe—no menu card here, you have to ask the waiter about the dishes available. I tried their mutton biryani, which was priced at ₹280. The quantity was sufficient and it came with complimentary kesari sweet, raita, and kuruma/salna. The taste was good, and I felt satisfied with the biryani portion. But when it came to the side dishes, I ordered mutton liver and prawn thokku. Both were tasty, but the quantity was very less compared to the price paid. Also, like most military hotels, the cooking style here leans towards being heavy on oil and spice, so it may feel a bit too rich if you prefer lighter meals. Service was quick, and the place definitely carries that nostalgic charm of an old-school eatery. Overall, a nice spot if you want to try authentic military-hotel style food in Chengalpattu, but I feel the portion sizes of side dishes could be more generous for the cost.
