If you want to experience the true essence of North Kolkata food culture, Naba Malancha Restaurant in Sovabazar, Darjipara, is a legendary spot you can’t miss. One of the oldest and most loved eateries in the area, this place has been serving flavor-packed comfort food for ages — and still manages to hold its charm. The menu is massive and diverse — from crispy cutlets, golden fish fry, chops, pakoras, and hearty parathas to rich Mughlai gravies and surprisingly good Indo-Chinese dishes. We tried the Mixed Chow Mein (loaded with veggies, chicken, prawns, and topped with boiled eggs) which was flavorful, generously portioned, and carried that nostalgic old-school taste. Their Chicken Kosha (₹90, 4/5) and Mutton Korma (₹170, 3.5/5) were also highlights — the kosha had an authentic spicy kick with a big tender chicken piece, while the korma had a sweet, aromatic gravy with four soft, well-cooked pieces. Both paired perfectly with roti or their luchi-like parathas, though a bit oily. What makes Naba Malancha truly special is its consistency, value for money, and old-world vibe. The place may not be fancy, but it’s well-kept, full of nostalgia, and always bustling with locals who swear by its food. If you’re hanging out with friends or exploring North Kolkata, this pocket-friendly food haven is a must-visit.
