Tucked away in the bustling heart of Chala Bazaar in East Fort, Mubarak Hotel is a legendary Thiruvananthapuram staple, particularly famed for its seafood offerings. Located on the first floor of a building, the eatery is accessible only via a staircase, making it less than ideal for those with mobility issues. Since it sits deep within the busy market, parking—even for two-wheelers—is a challenge, so you’ll need to secure a spot elsewhere before heading in. On my lunchtime visit, I paired the standard meals with their signature fish fry. While the daily catch usually features Choora, Para, and Konju, I opted for the Prawns (Konju) fry. The portion was generous, featuring numerous pieces perfectly roasted in a flavorful, aromatic masala. At approximately ₹310 for the combo, the meal offered decent quality with a solid selection of side dishes. Historically a haunt for local shopkeepers and workers, Mubarak’s widespread fame now draws a diverse crowd from across the city. Be prepared for an enormous rush during peak hours; the relentless flow of customers often leads to a wait for a table, and service can feel a bit stretched thin as a result. Despite the hectic atmosphere, it remains a destination for anyone seeking an authentic fish fry experience in the city. Price per person: ₹200–400 Food: 3 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 3

The food was good and budget-friendly. The place is located in the marketplace and is usually quite crowded. One plate of fish fry is sufficient for two people. The fish fry was very delicious, and the kappa served as a side dish tasted really good and complemented it well. Price per person: ₹1–200 Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3
