Short review: Great location, great host's, warm welcome, fantastic food, comfortable rooms with balcony and AC,amazing value! Sunil is a local taxi driver that the owners can contact for you. He is a lovely, respectable and attentive driver who is more than happy to show you places of interest on your journey. Long review: I had the pleasure of spending six days at the Moonlight Guest House in early to mid-November 2024. I can not recommend this place enough. First off, the location. Situated about half way between the beach and the main Candolim/Calangute Road, both within a gentle 5 min walk, it is close enough to everything you need, but far enough from the hustle and bustle to allow you to truly relax. The moonlight is owned and run by Santana and Theresa, and you would be hard pushed to find better hosts. They are both wonderful, accommodating people who are (rightfully) proud of what they have built. A relaxed oasis that is comfortably rustic. The food was much the same as the surroundings. Comfortably rustic. One of my main reasons for going to Goa was to eat. Wherever I go, I want to taste the local food. I ate breakfast and evening meal at the Moonlight almost everyday. Breakfast I would generally have eggs and these were always properly cooked and tasty. But it is the evening when your taste buds will truly come alive! There were plenty of other dining options in the locale, which I tried during my stay. But for me, the dining and ambiance at the Moonlight was just a cut above. I grew up near a town called solihull in the 80's and 90's, in the Midlands which meant that due to its proximity to Birmingham, I was lucky to grow up around a number of ethnic cuisines, Indian being probably the primary of these. And as good as many of those experiences have been, they have been ruined by the fare that I tasted at the Moonlight. Don't get me wrong, if you don't feel as adventurous there are plenty of dishes of a more European fare, but for me it was all about the local, authentic food. And that is what I found. I rarely veered from the Goan dishes page of the menu, and I was never disappointed! The only exception was that I had a biryani on one night, which was amazing! From the moment we got off the plane, we were surrounded by spices. Cumin drying on sheets by the side of the road, or families drying their own chillies in their garden's, it just seemed to make the food so much more satisfying! The staff are attentive, but generally relaxed. And there is nothing finer than having a few drinks and a meal on the covered, outdoor terrace. Enjoy a G&T or a glass of the Indian red wine(I forget the name, but it is a marvel) and discuss your day with your excellent hosts or some of the other residents. I must highlight the taxi driver we used while staying in Candolim. His name is Sunil and he is a wonderful man. He is a very safe and attentive Driver. Santana is able to contact him for you. Sunil will happily highlight photo opportunities as you pass through the various areas on your journey. He has an infectious smile and is very respectful. His rates are VERY reasonable. Even if you are not staying at the Moonlight, you owe it to yourself to try at least one evening as their guest. Although I recommend you visit early in your stay, as you will probably want to go back again! Service: 5
