I was very excited when Mexitaly opened close to my place and I thought my visits to chillies, on the other side of the city, were history. I visited this place soon after it opened, which was quite sometime ago. I ordered two servings of chicken tacos. The tacos were fairly average in quantity and quality and a Mexican restaurant that doesn't get it's tacos right really needs to pull it together. Mexitaly hasn't tried very hard with ambience either. There's soft, ambient lighting and then there's plain shady. Couches made of hard plywood backs and the sombrero-ish hats on the front wall sum up the restaurateur's understanding of Mexico, it's culture and it's food.

Hyderabad houses very few Mexican restaurants and in the non-five star category Mexitaly is perhaps the only restaurant with decent Mexican options. As the name suggests this restaurant has both Mexican and Italian and we went with the intention of primarily having Mexican food.

As we entered the restaurant the elevation looked well done and cozy with lamps hanging over the stairs leading to the dinning areas. There were some cowboy hats put up on one wall to kind of give a Mexican feel, but the ambiance was nothing close to an authentic Mexican restaurant. We were first seated on the terrace/balcony area. The decor was average but we had an issue with mosquitoes, they already had a mosquito coil and we requested for another as we were 6 of us but it did no good at all. Once we were done with starters we requested to be moved indoors. The indoors were very plain with no decor, no music and although it was a Saturday night there was just one other couple apart from us the entire time.

They had 2 different menus with some items the same on both, didn't understand why. One was a regular menu which had some red colored pages with the print hardly visible and they were torn and looked terrible. The other was a one page printed sheet laminated.

Thankfully the food was not like the menu, it was fine. If you ate Mexican food in the US and expect something similar then you are going to be gravely disappointed, but for what Hyderabad has to offer I would say it is decent. A really good attempt in fact as there is no other place like this (in this price range) so far.

We had minestrone soup, and, like many other places I had this soup in Hyderabad, it was thin and with very less beans and/or pasta. However they got the flavor right and it was very tasty. The spicy Mexican corn and bean salad wasn't too spicy and was very yum. I would have loved a tad bit less dressing though. We also had some nachos and jalapeno poppers and both were decent.

For main course we had some burritos, chimichangas and enchiladas. The main course dishes were platted well and most of them came with Mexican rice, sour cream and some salsa on the side. Again nothing was close to authentic Mexican but still good in taste. What I missed was the re-fried beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, side salads with fresh crisp lettuce and so on that you normally get in Mexican places in the US. The size of each main course was enough for one person when we had it along with soup and starters.

Few different staff members assisted us and not all were knowledgeable when it came to questions we had about the menu or the items available etc. But they were all very courteous and nice.

Overall this is one decent place to head to if you are craving for Mexican food.

Given that my wife likes Mexican and I like Italian, we thought that this is an ideal fusion restaurant for us to spend a good evening at. However, all things good stop at the name of the restaurant!

We visited this place about a month ago. After wading through a darkly lit corridor with cobblestones (you can easily slip, fall and hurt yourself if your eyesight is not up to the mark), we enter an even darker restaurant. The seating including tables and chair are all ordinary. The chairs are extremely uncomfortable to sit, and I had a lower back pain by the time I was done. Ambience - 1/5.

We ordered a Veg Tortilla soup, and a tostada starter, and ordered burrito and fajita for main course. When we tasted the soup, oh my God, this was the most unbelievably spicy soup that I had ever tasted in my life! I have taken soup in plenty of Mexican restaurants in the US, and nothing comes anywhere close to what was served. After two sips and coming to the conclusion that it was impossible to finish this, we asked the waiter to replace the soup. The replacement soup that came was probably the same one diluted by a couple of spoons of water. I gave up after another 3 sips. I saw a nearby table also return back their soup!

There were previous reviews on this place that the service was slow. They seem to have overcompensated for that. The appetizer and the main course arrived together! And everything was again unbelievably spicy. And with low AC, you can imagine the amount of sweating. We just quickly had a few bites, and exited the restaurant as quickly as possible. And to top it all, they had no desserts that day!!!

We just had to cool down the burning sensation in our mouths, and made a beeline to Inorbit mall Cream Stone. Only after taking two full ice-creams did the tongue feel better and relaxed!

Overall, a very bad place if you want to have a moderately spicy food. Service is improved from the prior reviews but food is terrible.
