Impromptu meal with a friend. We tried the Kashmiri veg thali and some extra bread. The food was good, comforting, and nicely presented. The restaurant has got very good reviews. This could be either because the food was good in the past or the reviewers dont know the delicacy of Kashmiri cuisine. Alu dam, paneer chaman, hak (which was replaced with spinach is an injustice to Kashmiri cuisine and Haak) none of them tasted even close to the flavour of Kashmiri cuisine. The only dishese that tasted closer to kashmiri cuisine was Rajma and Nadru . None of the dishes in Wazwan tasted like any component of Wazwan as told by my family who are non vegetarians. Probably the only exception was Tabak maj. After i stopped going to Kashmir valley, I frequented a very small kashmiri eatery in Thamel in Kathmandu and their food was very close to the delicacy of Kashmiri cuisine at 4th the cost of Matamaal. After Kathmandu this is the first effort to relive the Kashmiri cusine and Matamal was a disaster. Most items both in the veg Thali and Wazwan were devoid of flavour and appeared prepared long back and served after reheating. May be it was a bad day for either us or the chef.
