I live in SEA so I am quite well versed in the cuisines they serve here. We got the Som Tam, lettuce cups, and the soggy basil fried rice. The Som Tam was the pick of the lot. It was almost right. Not enough garlic, fish sauce, and chilli’s. Too much sugar and the lime juice was also not exactly right. But it was reasonable. The big miss here was the crunch element. Papaya salad is served with green beans for crunch. Thai food is about balance and if you take out the crunch, the salad is not right. The lettuce cups were ok. The lettuce was an iceberg lettuce which is ok but the leaves are too thin for this dish. It’s more common to have something more robust. But the big miss here was than in Larb Gai, you have to have more lime juice, zest, chillies, and Thai basil. It should be herby and bright. Without that you have a flat dish and that is what happened here. The last dish was a real miss. Pad Krapow is one of my absolute favourite dishes ever. It’s amazing when done right. However, what it’s not is: (1) served in a way that the rice is sitting in a soup, (2) the rice is Thai jasmine rice and not long grain rice, and (3) it’s loaded with Thai basil. Like loaded. I know this is Ludhiana and maybe Thai rice is not available or expensive. The Thai basil though you should be able to grow easily. Most of the rest is just technique. It’s just flavor balance. At a lower price point I would have been less harsh but at 800 rupees for a stir fry with rice, you gotta do better than this. On the positive, service was warm and personable. The ambience was nice. Food seemed not fresh. Szechwan Sauce was ill prepared and lacked taste. Gravy was really really bad. This is not our first time with this dish. Earlier standards have not been maintained.
