Went in here on a weekend for early lunch craving for a dosa before we would start shopping.
While the legendary and the original Basavanagudi outlet stands out to be the best one, other outlets(Malleswaram, Indiranagar, st. marks road) are at least decent; But this one at Commercial street is below average!
Ambiance: two floored building- sweet/snacks on the ground floor and spacious seating area on the top floor.
Food:
Dosa and half the items on the menu that we asked for were unavailable, thus off to a bad start. Ended up ordering----
Bisibelebath: tasty as expected
Mini meals: Huge disappointment! Everything from sambar and rasam to curdrice was awful. Stay away from meals here :(
This branch has closed down. I went there for breakfast and was not able to locate it, even when google said it's right there. There, an old uncle speaking in propah english informed it closed down a couple of months back.
Since we are in bangalore we had plenty of opportunity to explore Bangalore eateries. A visit to Bangalore can never be completed without a visit to MTR 1924. Here's the summary.
Ambiance: Very ordinary, extremely simple. In fact it's in midst of the commercial street which is a very busy market.
Food: We ordered rava idli, it is extremely good to look at and also so yummy to eat. The mini meal had assortment of dosa, idli, vermicelli and other things. It was extremely delicious to eat. Akki roti and neer dosa we tried for the first time and it was awesome. They gave ghee with dosa and idli too. The food was so awesome that we ate even on a full stomach. Wanted to try their thali but it was our by then. Will try to taste it while I am still in the city.
Service: quiet okay nothing to boast about. When a place is old and famous and there are people thronging Waiters have no time to smile and serve.
All the points are for the food ambiance and service was way less than satisfactory. But a very nice place.
