We recently dined at Mallu Republic and ordered a spread that included Appams, Beef Roast, Kerala Chicken Fry, Kerala Fish Thali, and Prawns Mango Curry. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We found hair strands in one of the thali items and also in the masala coating of the chicken dry fry. When this was pointed out to the server, the response was casual — “such things happen sometimes” — which was quite unacceptable. Issues related to food hygiene should be handled seriously, and the restaurant really needs to improve the personal hygiene standards of their staff and their food handling practices. As for the food itself, it was average overall. The prawns mango curry, which we had higher expectations from, did not stand out in terms of taste. I have visited Kerala multiple times and had the local preparations in restaurants as well home cooked food. Other dishes were just okay, nothing memorable. The ambience is that of a fast-service eatery, simple and functional, not really suited for a relaxed dining experience. Service is okay, but the way the hygiene concern was handled definitely needs improvement. Overall, there is significant scope for improvement, especially in cleanliness, staff training, and customer handling. Hygiene should never be compromised, regardless of how busy a place is.
