I had ordered for a pack of 6 assorted mini Berliners and a chocolate ganache tart. Both were highly over priced but i wanted to give it a try. The Berliners had hardly any filling and tasted just of fried dough. The tart was extremely average. Worst was the packaging as everything was shoved into one box which showed very little interest in the way they give service to their customers. The Berliners had rolled all over the box and some stuck to the tart. Paying an exorbitant fee of 160 for delivery was obviously the biggest waste of money. Just a bad experience and wouldn’t recommend this to anyone as there are much better and cheaper options in the market.

I bumped across Les Couches when they posted about their berliners on PEO and that was something which got stamped on my mind. When I was in Delhi, there was a brief time when I did a project with UNDP. During the course of which I made friends in various embassies there, mostly a few from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2014, I was invited over to a colleague's house where we were supposed to watch FIFA finals between Germany & Argentina, and WHAT A MATCH it was! Germany's fourth title and we celebrated so much that day.

That day was so memorable and one of the key reasons was the amazing food I had. I was not very informed that point of the time since I was in my 'silly adult' phase yet everything on their table blew my mind from Bratwursts to the Beef Rolls to Potato Dumplings. I remember particularly a plate of fried donuts kept on the table. I vaguely remember the rage Krispy Kreme has brought to India and that reminded me of those. So, I picked up one and took a bite and it was nothing like Krispy Kreme, it was warm, hard shelled dusted with some sugar and then when you take a bite, it just melts, I mean, its gone. And then, the stuffing hit - it was some kind of marmalade or jelly I cannot specifically remember. But the whole things was so beautiful and to me, it was food from heaven. I was never into desserts & sweets but this made me fall in love.

So, you can understand the impact of Les Couches Berliners on me when I now say that they are amazing. Because I never expected to eat these again until, maybe, if I visit Germany. And I will not be wrong when I say these tasted EXACTLY the same. Same texture, same buttery bite, same crust except the filling which in my opinion was better for me because I am all about cream, I mean come on - CREAM! And as if that was enough, he added coffee! The cream is better and he has three options for you to choose from! These are one of my favourite things to eat from Pune, 100%!

Even though, these berliners have my heart, there are other things I have tried from here and they were spot on as well. Boston Cream Pie - if I am not wrong Les Couches have their own version of it and I would prefer these anyday! The traditonal ones are basically cakes stuffed with cream fillings, and they were called so because at that time, cakes and pies were made in the same skillet. These are doughnut versions and extremely well thought of! Another thing which I loved from here were Profiteroles which are French choux pastry balls stuffed with whipped cream - something I have had since a kid because there was a small bakery - Gurunanak in Bareilly which made a bigger version of these which is Eclairs. Every week my Dad would take me there on his Bajaj scooter, and even before he would put it on stand, I would run to Uncle and he would be waiting with two eclairs packed and one neatly placed on a disposable plate, in a napkin and give it to me. Same taste, smaller size, loads of triggered nostalgia.

Sea Salt Caramel Brownies were another thing I had ordered but it went to my friends since I had to make an impromtu visit there and I coincidentally had a box of these so I took them. And they loved it. LC was nice enough to also make me Baby SHower hampers for my two friends' which they loved to the core and I cannot thank LC enough for accomodating my requests! I wish I could share photos of the hampers he made but I was in such a hurry, I missed clicking the wonderful thing he made for them. Thanks to Vaibhav, I also got to have the Cinnamon Rolls which came with some Cream Cheese frosting and they were my breakfast everyday with a hot cup of coffee!

So, please, in case you are not bored with my intense write-up for them, do give them a try. They have amazing line-up of things for you to try (DO NOT miss the berliners). I wish them all the luck and wish that they do thousand folds better in the future. Thank you so much for serving me with such amazing things, you have a huge fan in me.
