If you're in Salem and craving thattu vadai, Lakshmi Thattu Vadai Kadai on the first right off Angammal Colony Main Road is an absolute gem. Not exaggerating when I say this is hands down one of the best thattu vadai stalls you’ll ever come across. What really sets them apart is the freshness of the vegetables. The carrots, beetroot, and onions all tasted super crisp, like they were just cut. And the chutneys were spot on. Each bite had a perfect balance of crunch, tang, and spice, without being too heavy or too plain. It’s the kind of street food that instantly makes you pause and enjoy the moment. I also tried the garlic set, and to be honest, I wasn’t expecting that subtle coconut flavour in it, but it surprised me in the best way. It had this homely yet bold taste that made it truly memorable. There’s a certain simplicity in how they serve, but the taste is uniquely their own. You might have tried thattu vadai in a hundred places, but this one really stands out. Totally worth the visit, even if it means a little detour.
