In fact, the place is unreasonably expensive considering the quantity, ambiance and service they offer.
With the increasing number of options for vegetarian restaurants in the city, I wouldn’t visit this extremely average restaurant again.
Why? Because adventure is the spice of life :)
Oh That Funny Name
In addition, the name of the restaurant is Kuaizi (Chinese for chopsticks) and Kadai and that might dissuade a gentler soul from trying the continental.
But if a restaurant focuses on Chinese and Indian then naturally I want to see if the continental is equally good.
The owner informed us that he has deliberately used this confusing name for the restaurant because it encourages debate and once it registers in your mind it refuses to obliterate itself. Well!
The Ambience
The interiors looked dark and lavish, attempting to get that upscale and muted ambience. However, the temperature of the AC was comfortable, the music was also soothing - old Hindi musicals; the service was spot on and the owner Saraf was seen chit chatting with patrons which felt nice. Kol should have more dynamic young entrepreneurs like him.
The Chef
The chef, he informed us, is Rozario from Fire n Ice. Not a promising start because I had a terrible expereince in my one and only visit to that joint. The thing is, K n K itself looked pretty deserted for a Saturday afternoon lunchtime so I assumed that maybe the food wasn't so nice here after all.
Maybe the reviews were hyped or worse, paid for.
The Soup
With a stiff upper lip, I started with the cilantro soup which was satisfyingly hot and slightly spicy. It consisted of finely juliened vegetables in a clear base. It was accompanied by a slice of buttered bun toasted to a nice, crispy golden colour.
The Accompaniment
The cheesy garlic bread arrived next and my hopes rose when I tasted it. Soup could have been a fluke, I remember thinking, but once I had the garlic bread, I was assured that the lunch would be a success.
The garlic bread was comfortably cheesy with just the right amount of garlic in it. I was tempted to sprinkle some oregano and chilli flakes on it just to pep it up a bit.
The Main Course
I was already full by the time the main course - the pizza - arrived.
It was an eyeful.
12 inches of thin crust base slathered with cheese, olives, brocolli, red and yellow pepper bells. Just looking at it made me smile.
We both thought we couldn't finish it but the pizza was so light, thin and crispy that we managed to do full justice to it.
I also drizzled some olive oil on it because of my Indian tastebuds. The waiters then packed the leftover slices for us.
The Dessert
Tummies bulging and souls satisfied I thought the lunch was over. We totally forgot about the 3 layer chocolate dessert we had ordered. When it arrived we just goggled at it. A crumbly chocolate base was covered with 3 types of ice cream - strawberry, chocolate and vanilla - and drizzled with chocolate sauce. Am pretty sure the ice cream was not made in-house and neither was the accompanying chocolate stick.
Nevertheless, it was a splendid finish to a yummy meal.
Please do go to K n K, you will enjoy the meal at this all veg restaurant which serves no booze because they wish to target family crowds and aim to have three generations sitting on one table for a meal.
Pocket Pinch
Don't forget to lookup the discount vouchers online which are a real steal - we spent 750 for 2 here whereas each dish is priced at around 300+.
The young owner informed us that most memories are made from food and he intends to ensure that your memory here will be a wonderful one.
