I'm basically from Malvan and having being spent most of the summer holidays at my native place, super fresh seafood holds a special place in my heart. I would anytime prefer seafood over Mutton or Chicken.
When Ashay Relekar pinged me and asked whether I could visit his restaurant which specializes in seafood I was happy & excited.
Kokani Kitchen is located at the same place were Hotel Surya was earlier. It has a simple yet comfortable ambience along with ample parking space on the road.
Best part according to me-
*Seafood served to us was extremely fresh
*No typical fish smell to any of the items
*Marination for each type was different and perfect
*Everything was prepared fresh on order basis
*Food wasn't salty
*For every fish starter they provide you with an array of options to choose from with respect to the mariantion and coating. They range from green, Rawa, tawa & tandoor
We started with *Tival, a refreshing and popular drink from goa. It is made using kokum, salt, sugar, green chillies & garnished with coriander. This sweet, spicy and tangy drink was flavoursome.
Then came in a big piece of *Surmai Tawa Fry. All those who do not enjoy Rawa coating in fish fry can try this deliciously made surmai. The masala coating was perfect and tasty. It was addictive. You just can't stop eating. Also the portion size was huge.
We were yet to finish the surmai and the *Tandoori Prawns arrived. I particularly never enjoyed Tandoori in seafood but Ashay ensured I won't regret this one. And, yes we didn't. The curd + masala marination was just right and tandoor grilling gave it a nice smoky touch to the dish. Juicy & Tasty!
Then came the huge thali. It was appealing to the eyes and totally drool worthy. The thali included -
*Full Pomfret Rawa Fry
*Less spicy prawns curry
*Medium Spicy Fish curry
*Tival, Solkadhi
*Mirgund
*Sukat & Fresh Coconut Chutney
*Gavan & Steamed Rice
The view was mesmerizing and it tasted heavenly. Super delicious. Both the coconut based curries had an amazing and well absorbed flavors from triphala. I loved how Ashay has added a perfect balance to this thali with respect to the selection and preparation of the items. A lot of thought has been given behind its curation.
Do try this place and let me know if you have had such authentic & tasty seafood anywhere. The food looked beautiful and tasted even better. Satisfaction is guaranteed!
If you are an ardent seafood lover like me then this place is a must try!
