Okay so I finally got a chance to try out this place owing to a standup event at their premises. And here’s my review…
Starting with the ambience…
Located on the top floor of a building, I thought they’d have a good ventilation or air conditioning. Alas! The viewers and the performers were sweating profusely throughout the duration. I feel bad for the performers. I mean why invite someone over to just torture them like this?
Next, the food and service…
We ordered an appetiser (Black Pepper Chicken) and two drinks. To just place the order, we had the hassle of getting a busboy to take our order. But good news, we were able to do that 30 mins into sitting in our seats. And you’d think we got our orders on time? No!!! We got the appetiser early. Though it tasted fine, the portion was way less for the price it was offered at. And the drinks? Well, 2 drinks for 2 people should not be served at a gap of 15 mins. But they did.
Lastly I’d like to go ahead and mention the invoice scam and the behaviour of the owner (or whoever it was the billing counter).
To get our bill, we waited for another 10 mins. I thought it might be a manual one. It was computerised. (I don’t even take that much time while making my invoices with 30 rows in it.) When I got the invoice, they were being clever and asked me to pay the written amount. I saw the service charge. Asked them to remove it. Their faces were like “ah shit! Someone smart is here”. They thought no one will notice it, but here’s the breakdown of the invoice.
F&B = ₹ 939
Taxes @ 5% = ₹ 47 (rounded off)
Service charge @ 10% = ₹ 93.9
Total = ₹ 1085
Do the math once please!
After removing the service charge, the total should be ₹ 986. Their total was ₹ 991.
It wasn’t amount about the ₹ 5, but about principle.
They are scamming people. Here’s how it works.
Their system adds the service charge and your items and then taxes the total. But places service charge below the taxes so if you remove the service charge you’ll still end up paying more. ₹ 5-10 might seem less to us, but adding it to 100 customers a day, 30 days a month, you can do the math.
So, will I go there again? Never ever!
Will I suggest it to others? Nope.
Should they be sued for this? Indeed.
