UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT. DO NOT VISIT. I went to Joey's Pub tonight with my friends. We were staying in Darjeeling for the night and wanted to have some drinks. All was fine until two local guys from the next table started talking to me and asking where I am from. I told them that we were childhood friends from Kolkata. He kept asking the same question and I ignored him after some time. He then asked if I wanted to buy some weed and I stayed silent ignoring him. Then, the other guy came and sat at our table and started asking about my religion.. whether I was Hindu or Muslim, whether I was from Bangladesh. When I asked him why he was asking me all these questions, he flicked my cheeks and picked up a bottle of beer to hit me. His friend stopped him. I was almost about to hit him back but I did not want to have any more trouble. All this while, the bartender and the manager were standing at the bar counter and did not do anything. They were just watching, maybe waiting till we got physically hurt. The crazy guy also started intimidating and threatening my friends, all the while he was saying that he would not accept such bold questions from a tourist. His friend took him away as I told him that I didn't want to start a fight. Only when they left, the manager approached us and asked what they were saying. It was so strange as he was standing right there 10 feet away and watched every bit of it. Do not go to this shady place anymore. When I came back to our homestay, I shared the incident with the host. He said that we should have avoided that part of the town. So I urge everyone to avoid the place. Do not go to Joey's Pub as it's not a safe place, even for four guys let alone for women or families. Horrible experience! Shame on the management of Joey's Pub. Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
