My friends and I recently visited Izumi’s Assagao outlet in September, and our experience there was nothing short of stellar. So when we discovered that Bandra has an Izumi outlet as well, we were beyond excited to visit one so close to home. Unfortunately, that excitement quickly turned into disappointment. Calling it a letdown is honestly mincing words. My intention here is not to compare the two outlets, but I am compelled to do so after this experience. The servers were disengaged to the point of indifference, the food was lacklustre, and the desserts were downright disastrous. We ordered four ramen bowls, two vegetarian sushi rolls, shiitake mushrooms, and tori nanban. The ramen bowls were completely underwhelming, with neither depth of flavour nor balance and the overall meal simply did not justify the steep prices. Hoping the desserts might redeem the experience, we ordered the Fuji Tropica and the Monaka, but both were shockingly poor. The wafer biscuit in the Monaka was rock-hard and stale, while the coconut snow in the Fuji Tropica had an unpleasant, almost funky taste. For a restaurant that charges ₹10,000 for a meal, that level of quality was unacceptable. To make matters worse, the restaurant had the audacity to add a service charge despite offering what can only be described as apathetic service. Thankfully, when we requested that service charge be removed, they complied. It’s genuinely hard to believe this is the same brand that sets the bar so high in Assagao. Izumi Bandra seriously needs to reassess not just its food and service standards, but also its overall attitude toward customers. Pros. Tori Nanban. California Roll Cons. Pork Tonkatsu Shoyu Ramen. Vegetarian Shoyu Chintan Ramen. Fuji Tropica. Monaka. Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3
