It was so bad, that i'm even going to explain how we ended up at that shit hole. In fact, it was such a pathetic experience that I remember every miserable detail of it. Anyway, one fine evening my bosses at work decided to have a mid week team bonding (getting shit faced) session and were looking out for a place to party nearby (M.G. Road) after work. And ION was the chosen destination.
At around 7:30, we walk into an empty club, with no one to even great us at the entrance!!! After looking around for a few, some random guy, wearing no uniform nor distinguishing item and without even apologizing for not being around for a good 5 minutes, asked us to wait a bit until his manager got to us.
10 minutes later the "manager" comes to us, sorts out our reservation of 25, for a good time. Telling us to be seated anywhere as the entire place is ours, and that food and drinks would be served shortly. After about 10 minutes we see some young mug, who can barely speak English manning the bar counter, followed by a man carrying 2 cartons of UB Pint beers, who then goes to the cooler to stock it up. Another 10 minutes later, we see 3 men hurriedly walking through a "running" club with bags of what seemed like vegetables, meat and some fruits into the kitchen, that's when we realize that in spite of a 4 hour advance booking, forget about cooking the food, they didn't even get the ingredients!!! Apart from not even bothering to put alcohol in the fridge!!! I mean who the hell runs a club with no beer in the fridge!!!
A good 1 hour after we got in, we got our first drinks. And after about 4 more drinks (i'm a fast drinker) some food finally arrives on tables, about 4 plates exactly, and count em', we are TWENTY FIVE, half drunk, starving people. The food is over before half of us have even seen it!!
20 minutes later, some more food comes, then it gets more consistent. Same story with the alcohol. At about 10 p.m, the party actually begins to start picking up as drunken bullshit & emotions are at an all time high. And at 10:45, the management turns off the music, we were all so high, I went and turned it back on myself!!! But, at 11:15, the power was cut and we were promptly handed the bill of about 28,000, which IMO is nothing short of an absolute steal for 25 fully grown, alcoholic adults.
In fact, we had ended up having such a crazy time that if it had started out better, this review would have been the exact opposite of what it is. The food was definitely fresh as it came in after us!! The decor was OK enough and we had access to free pool and Wi-Fi as well. And with no one else around apart from familiar office faces the scene was set for drunken fury.
So, why does this place still get a 1.0 rating you ask? It's the hospitality industry, if your not serving me properly, someone else will!! I know for a fact that older, cheaper players would move heaven and earth to make sure we have the most enjoyable time, especially for single bill business of almost 30K.
If I could sum up all my disappointments of all the pubs, clubs and bars I've visited and could use that collective knowledge to open a club of my own, ION Bar & Kitchen is exactly how I would never do it!
