Having lived in Hyderabad for a huge chunk of my life, I am extremely judgmental about biryani. And a huge part of my visit to Lucknow was to try out the Awadhi biryani because of the stark difference between the Hyderabadi and Awadhi versions. While the former is more focused on spice and taste, being heavy, the latter is more concentrated on aroma and is extremely light.
I tried the biryani at quite a few places and Idrish came out right on top! Their quarter plates are adorable and the gravy is very different from the Hyderabadi salan. Sitting on the roadside at this little place, savouring every morsel, took me back to a time when lives were more leisurely and food was meant to be enjoyed. Both the mutton and chicken variants we brilliant! The biryani was so delightful that I didn't try anything else from their menu but honestly, it will be my first stop on my next visit to Lucknow.
If you happen to be in the neighbourhood, don't miss Idrish because it's one of the few restaurants from a dying breed. Restaurants that really care about their customers. Don't forget to drop in at this little, warm and fuzzy place.
