Visited Datta Boarding House with high expectations, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The service was too slow, and we had to wait a long time for our order. The Surmai served was not fresh and had a slight stinking smell, which was a major letdown, especially for a restaurant known for seafood. The thali was incomplete and lacked variety — hardly anything exciting on the plate. There was no Javla, Thick Machhi Curry for Rice Bhakri. Means you have to eat the Bhakri with Fried Fish only. The ambience was not appealing either; the interior looked dull and outdated, and the sitting arrangement was very congested, making it uncomfortable to dine peacefully. The only saving grace was the Prawns Masala, which was well-cooked and full of flavour. If not for that, the experience would have been a complete disappointment. Based on this visit, I would say the restaurant needs serious improvement in terms of food quality, service, and overall hospitality. Giving it 2 stars, only because of the prawns dish. Otherwise, I wouldn’t recommend this place for anyone looking for a satisfying seafood thali experience. Price per person: ₹2,000+ Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2

Very authentic Maharashtra style veg& non vegetarian fare with extensive menu selections. I had their famed mutton thali & bombil fry. Mutton thali came with thick gravy mutton, bhakri, rice& sol kadi vati, with additional vati of thin gravy. Mutton pieces were soft & gravy preparation was homely style which was a refreshing change compared to most mutton thalis i had in mumbai. Bombil fry was delicious and fresh and paired well with mutton thin gravy. Cant wait for the next visit soon. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3

Certain things and places in life don't change (and thank God for that) - despite the wave of commercialisation all over. Shri Datta Boarding House in Lalbaugh (Parel) is one of them. Still serving the same old home-style Malwani Cuisine from their pristine modest little eatery but of unfailing quality and taste. It's one of the few Malwani/Konkani restaurants which gives equal emphasis to meats as fish. So not to miss are their mutton Bheja (Dry or Gravy) and if your taste permits - goat intestines. Otherwise, do try the Mutton Kheema or Liver along-with the best catch of the season. Today - I settled for Mori (Baby-Shark) and Teesriya (Clams) giving Crabs and the rest a miss. On a weekend - you might like to tank-up first at the many beer-bars around before heading for SDBH :)
