Hotel Dolphin, Katra – 1/5 Stars – Highly Dissatisfactory Experience I am compelled to submit this review to alert potential guests about serious shortcomings experienced during my recent stay at Hotel Dolphin, Katra. 1. Misleading Heater Charges The hotel promotes or verbally confirms “free room heater service” during the winter season. Relying on this assurance, we did not arrange alternative heating. At checkout, however, an additional charge of ₹350 per day per room was imposed for heater usage — an amount that was neither disclosed in the booking confirmation, nor clearly communicated at check-in. This constitutes misleading conduct and unacceptable billing transparency. 2. Substandard Room Service & Staff Behavior Requests for basic amenities (extra towels, hot water, etc.) were either ignored for extended periods or met with delayed, discourteous responses. Frontline staff displayed unprofessional attitude, including abrupt replies, visible irritation, and a general lack of courtesy — behavior that falls significantly short of acceptable hospitality standards. 3. Poor Food Quality Meals served through in-house dining and room service were consistently below par: watery dals, overcooked vegetables lacking flavour, excessively oily preparations, and hard, poorly made rotis. The overall taste and presentation were disappointing, forcing us to seek food outside the property. 4. Unhygienic Bathroom Conditions The bathroom showed visible signs of neglect — mould growth on tiles, residual hair, leaking fixtures, persistent unpleasant odour, and inadequate cleaning even after repeated complaints. Such conditions do not meet basic hygiene expectations. In summary, Hotel Dolphin failed to deliver on multiple fundamental aspects of hospitality: honest pricing, professional service, acceptable food quality, and basic cleanliness. Guests planning a visit to Katra, especially for the Vaishno Devi yatra, would be well-advised to choose alternative accommodation with better reviews and verifiable standards. Strongly not recommended. Rating: 1/5 (only to enable posting; the experience warrants lower if possible) Service: 1
