During the flu season at ekm ,we happened to be so dependent on veg food ,akshaya being nearby opted for the same .For breakfast we had bought Idlis sambar and chutney ,the usual combo.Idlis being the best ,soft served with piping hot sambar ,loved it .Chutney being thick ,felt it was over coconutey; ).Another day we ordered lunch ,the meals were okayish ,one packed meal can serve for two .the quantity of rice was huge ,loved the parippu beetroot thoran and tomato curry .Moru kachiyathu was too sour due to the buttermilk used .Sambar was the same as above.Pepper rasam was adipoli .Payasam was good enough .
Dirty . Unhygienic. Oily.
Those three magic words seem to sum up my experience at this place.
The place was dirty.
The toilet was a breeding ground for germs and all sorts of harmful bacteria.
The food was oily and cold.
The waiter uninterested in selling his restraunt to you. Fed-up and tired probably, I don't know.
After spending the Saturday shopping and having traditional Kerala Puttu we stopped by Hotel Akshaya for evening snacks. We three were pretty tired so Tea and coffee was must, with it we ordered Ghee Masala Dosa, Chole Bhaure and something new Chilli Paratha.
Ghee Masala Dosa was how its supposed to be, adequate quantity of Potato Masala and liberal amount of ghee. The chutneys that were served along with it was not great but all right.
Chole was decent but Bhature was over fried and crispy. As per my knowledge it should not be crispy.
Now coming to the new item that I had found in the menu was Chilli Paratha. I asked to the man who was taking order regarding it as I was expecting that it would be something to do with bell pepper and chillis stuffed paratha but it wasn’t. It was thick wheat paratha deep fried and then cut into cubes and cooked with capsicum and onions and curry leaves and some tomato puree. Points for the innovation but the out come wasn’t good. I was very disappointed with the taste. It was extremely oily and hard to chew. Even though it was deep fried it was raw in between and didn’t mixed well with the gravy. The quantity was huge and it was very heavy too but taste wasn’t.
Ambiance is fine when you compare to normal South Indian snacks outlet. The menu given at our table has a foul smell.
