I used the restaurant. After a 5 km trek, I felt famished and the Himalayan Hermitage with its prominent signage was right on the Manali-Leh highway. Located slightly off the road, one is protected from the occasional sound of vehicles buzzing by on the highway. I chose to sit on the sunny lawn. Though I was a solo diner, the staff were friendly and quickly brought me the menu. I chose a dal fry and chapatis, to be followed by semolina pudding (suji halwa), and sevaiya(vermicelli milk pudding) for dessert. The dal was incredibly scrumptious. Just like I would make at home, the chapatis fluffy and soft. The dessert was a total surprise. I was having suji halwa after a long time, and though a bit dry, it was rich in nuts and raisins. The sevaiya was absolutely mouth-watering. Slow-cooked till the milk has a creamy thickness, it was liberally garnished with nuts, cardamoms and raisins. Totally made my day. The resident doggo, though old and quiet, suddenly perked up and barked angrily at an intruding hen. After enjoying the sun for some more time, I left the place rather reluctantly. Service: 5
