Enjoy Backyard and visit this restaurant. If you have never tasted Indian and Vegetarian cuisines, you should reserve a table and try the menu at Hamsa. Nicely cooked paneer, cheese naans and garlic naans have a good taste. You can always try good gulab jamun, bread pudding and coconut ice cream at this place. Get your meal started with delicious wine. Great iced coffee, tea or chocolate frappe are what may make you come back to this spot.

We visited Hamsa on a friend’s recommendation, not quite knowing what to expect. Being from Bangalore, I’ll admit I’ve often been skeptical about Chennai’s food scene, perhaps even unfairly so, so it takes something truly special to win me over. Located in Gandhinagar, Hamsa immediately stands out. The entrance has a distinctly “Dhakshin” feel. It’s thoughtful and striking, and the elevator approach adds to the sense of anticipation. We were warmly welcomed by the manager, who had already been briefed about our dietary preferences, which set the tone for a very attentive dining experience. The décor is intriguing. An eclectic blend that seems to straddle both South and North Indian influences. While it might feel slightly mismatched at first glance, the menu brings everything together beautifully, offering a well-curated mix of Tamil and Punjabi cuisine. We ordered the tomato shorba, vazhathandu cutlet, black dal, maravalli kizhangu roast, curd, and ended with elaneer and lychee payasam. Every dish was executed to perfection. Balanced flavours, thoughtful textures, and clearly a lot of care in preparation. The staff was courteous, prompt, and added to the overall seamless experience. All in all, Hamsa delivered a truly fantastic dining experience and has certainly earned a spot on my very short list of standout restaurants in Chennai.
