Not much crowdy place with nice ambience. Ordered Pahad ki non-veg thali, spl gadh bhoj veg soup and bajra noodles. Chicken kebabs were missing in thali, otherwise overall taste was good. They have really unique and different menu. Service was ok, overall nice experience.
Sometimes, it is at the most nondescript places that we find the simple joys of life. In my case, it was 'Garh Bhoj' resto, tucked into a small street a few metres from the Rajpur Road. Upfront, the location is not very appealing but the insides are clean and tidy, a little dark too. The staff dresses up in traditional Garhwali clothes though they weren't very comfortable speaking the language and conversed in Hindi...polite and helpful all the time. They even took out the time to explain all the delicacies to us. We ordered Jhangora (Barnyard millet) which is not only a popular pahadi food but a lighter and healthier replacement of rice as well. We were advised to try (and very rightfully so) Kandali (bicchu buti) saag and Kandali cutlets. For the uninitiated, it's English name is Stinging Nettle; it's a very healthy and tasty green leafy veggie and is abundant in the hills of Uttarakhand. The fact that they managed to turn it into tasty cutlets was amazing. They even had Koda (mandwa) on the menu and a couple of dishes out of it.. Koda chapatis and halwa are a few to mention. Koda, by the way, is a protein rich dark flour also called Finger Millet Flour. 'Jhangriyal ke gaate' was another of my fav.
In a nutshell, if you are new to Uttarakhand or atleast new to it's cuisine ( yes, the cuisine of the hills of Uttarakhand is different and is a healthier and tastier option too) and don't want to travel up serpentine roads to the mountains and yet taste what the highlander eats then this is the place - the most authentic you will find in all of Dehradun
PS I guess they need to work on their PR because the only way I got to know about them was through a placard loosely dangling from a signpost.
