I’m genuinely disappointed to write this, but my recent visit to Dollops was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in years. Having visited this restaurant since 1999, I’ve always considered it an iconic place in Manipal and recommended it to friends and family. Unfortunately, the quality of food has deteriorated to an unacceptable level. The hot and sour soup was barely recognizable as a soup — it tasted more like a thin, poorly seasoned local gravy with none of the expected balance or flavour. The chicken lemon dry was equally disappointing; instead of the tangy, well-finished dish it should have been, it resembled a diluted chicken sukka with no distinct lemon profile. As for the chicken tikka gravy, it was so substandard that it’s honestly not even worth describing. It’s painful to see a once-reliable and well-loved restaurant fall so far in terms of quality and execution. Loyal customers return expecting the standards that built the restaurant’s reputation — not this level of careless, uninspired food. I sincerely hope the management takes this feedback seriously. Dollops has been a landmark in Manipal for decades, and it would be a real shame if declining food quality continues to erode what was once a trusted and iconic dining experience.
