I visited Dan Dan Chinese today on the occasion of Ram Navami, as many nearby Chinese food corners were closed. I decided to give this place a try, and I ordered two dishes: American Choupsey and Chicken Hakka Noodles. Both dishes were delicious, and I must say, it was my first time trying Choupsey, which I highly recommend to anyone visiting this place. The Chicken Hakka Noodles were also tasty, and they offer good quality and quantity. The portion sizes are quite generous, so one person may struggle to finish a dish — it's best to come with a companion or plan to parcel the leftover food. As a local guide on Google Maps and someone who likes to share detailed reviews, I'd like to highlight a few points that may be helpful for potential customers, and also for the owner to consider: 1. Lack of Air Conditioning: There is no air conditioning in the restaurant, and in the humid climate of Vile Parle East, it can get uncomfortable, especially near the fan area. Adding an air conditioning system could significantly improve the dining experience. 2. Cold Drinks: The restaurant doesn't offer cold drinks on the menu but provides them by bringing them from an outside source. While I appreciate that they offer this option when many others refuse, it would be more convenient if they stocked cold drinks on-site. 3. Slow Service: The food took quite a long time to be served, and there was no dedicated staff member to assist customers. There was an uncle helping out, but he was juggling multiple tasks — taking orders, answering calls, handling the kitchen, and managing bills. This made the service a bit frustrating at times, and I ended up packing my noodles to go. It would be beneficial to have an extra staff member to assist with customer service. 4. Mosquitoes: The restaurant is open, and with no gates, mosquitoes can be a problem. The plants outside, while adding to the aesthetic, also provide a hiding place for mosquitoes. Addressing this issue, perhaps with a net or better control, would improve the comfort of diners. 5. Order Assistance: Typically, restaurants guide customers on specials, combos, and menu items when taking orders. However, I was not informed about the combos or daily specials until after my order was placed. It would be helpful if the staff proactively shared this information to enhance the dining experience. 6. Customer Service: While the food was good, there were some basic service issues. No one asked if I wanted water, and there were no tissues or sauces available on the table. That said, I’d like to commend the uncle at the counter, who made an effort to clean my plate, spoon, and fork before serving. His politeness and attention to detail were appreciated. Suggestions for Improvement: Install air conditioning to improve comfort in the humid climate. Stock cold drinks on-site to make it more convenient for customers. Reduce the waiting time and consider adding more staff for customer service. Address the mosquito issue, perhaps with better pest control or netting. Ensure that customers are informed about specials and combos when ordering. Provide basic amenities like water, tissues, and sauces to enhance the overall dining experience. Overall, Dan Dan Chinese offers tasty food, but there are some areas for improvement, especially regarding service, comfort, and customer care. With a few adjustments, it could provide a much more enjoyable dining experience. Note: I’ve added photos of the restaurant, the food I ordered, and the menu for reference to help others get a better idea before visiting.
