I was very excited to order from here having looked at their menu. It was affordable and came in a wide variety. I ordered the three chicken bentos: cheese katsu, teriyaki and chashu. And here is the honest review: Pros: the flavours were very nice. The katsu and teriyaki particularly tasted very very good. The rice (which was the same in all the bentos) tasted buttery and garlicy. The dumplings were soft, juicy and covered in a unique spicy sauce. The portions were also quite decent. Since it had a lot of rice, one bento was enough to fill me moderately. I was satisfied eating it for the most part- both flavour and portion wise. Now, the cons are more like points of improvement since I liked the bentos quite a bit, but here they are: 1. The sticky rice was not sticky at all. It kept breaking apart and falling apart and it was so difficult eating it with chopsticks. This in itself is not a problem since the rice tasted really nice, but I WAS expecting sticky rice since it said “served with sticky rice” on the menu (and that was a big reason why I ordered from Crusty’s) and it was disappointing to see it actually wasn’t sticky rice. 2. The chashu was very dry. The flavor was delicious but the texture was dry and chewy and it was quite a task actually getting it down the throat. 3. I DID like the dumplings but the sauce was extremely spicy and in a box like teriyaki or cheese katsu, I was not expecting something to be so spicy. I couldn’t quite enjoy them since my spice tolerance is not very high and the sauce was spicier than normal. If only the sauce was separately sent, I’d have dipped it far lesser and have actually really enjoyed the dumplings. 4. I don’t understand the point of the salad. It was not served with any Japanese or Korean sauces (and these cuisines have so many of those that it might’ve been good to serve something with the salad)- in fact a little bit of kimchi instead of plain salad or something sweet would’ve made more sense in a bento box. 5. While the rice tasted good, it was the same in all the bentos- which made the whole concept of different bentos kinda boring. Same for the dumplings. I would’ve preferred if the three bentos came with different items but it was only the chicken flavor that was different. I would’ve been ordering everyday from here almost if some of these issues weren’t there, but since it’s expensive (around 300/- something for one bento box) and I’m not happy with quite a lot of things- I probably won’t. But I’m genuinely hoping to try other things like onigiri and dango (though I didn’t find them on the Swiggy menu?), and I’ll order this probably much later in the year to see if anything has changed.
