My husband had visited Crossroad Restaurant earlier with his colleagues and had shared good reviews, so this time we both went together on a bright sunny Saturday to try their thali. We ordered a veg and egg thali, and while the food was indeed tasty, the experience turned out disappointing. The portion size of the accompaniments (crispy potatoes, alu pitika, pakoda) was extremely small – hardly half a teaspoon each. Since we really enjoyed the flavors, we politely asked if we could get extra servings and were ready to pay for them. To our surprise, we were told that they make “just enough to serve each customer” and could not provide any more. This response was quite disheartening, especially as first-time visitors together who were genuinely enjoying the meal and willing to pay for extra portions. It felt very unwelcoming and left us with a poor impression, despite the good taste of the food. Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Service: Dine in Price per person: ₹400–600

Chicken Thali - Rs.130/- Crossroads restaurant, R R Colony, Rynjah, Shillong 20.11.23 Today I had a meeting near Rynjah & it got over just at lunch time. It was the perfect reason to check out some of the restaurants & eateries in the locality. So I chose Crossroad Restaurant today. Infact if I had not made the error with Hungry Care, I would have eaten here a few nights earlier. Anyway I entered the place, it had a walled section & an unwalled section upfront. There was a lot of effort by the owner to keep the decor interesting & eye catching especially with the grass carpeting all over. I was planning on getting the usual fish curry but the owner informed that he did not get good fish in the market, so I went for the Chicken Thali. 5mins later my order arrived. It had an enormous pile of rice, dal, 2 pcs of chicken curry, mashed potato, mix veg, papad, Schezwan chutney & basic salad. The rice was of ok quality & I could not finish half of it. I was stumped to see a small thin man ask for extra servings of the rice. He must have been a magician. The 2 pcs. of chicken were also huge. First time I was struggling to finish just 2 pcs. Maybe perhaps because the pcs I got were a little stringy. The dal was okay. Infact I preferred it to the curry in the chicken. The curry had an overpowering flavor that did not tickle my taste buds. The mix veg & mashed potato also were decent. The Schezwan sauce gave it a bit of a kick. Overall this was a task that I humbly failed to finish. It was just too much food on a single plate. I'm sure people with appetites will enjoy. Plus prices were very reasonable for the quantity you get.
