Some food memories just stay stuck with you, asking you time and again when that one perfect bite from that qualitative restaurant fed you. Such is the power of greatly cooked food and such was the memory i had with cream centre a couple handful years ago in Bengaluru. Sadly, the one in Bengaluru closed permanently and i craved for that perfect bite for years and years together. I remember the cream centre in Bengaluru was a triumph in my opinion. It served us a plethora of generously flavoursome and luxuriously plated food that made my taste buds never forget the experience. And when i first saw the existence of cream centre in Pune, i promised myself to treat myself there and i finally did that. But to put the verdict out bluntly, it wasn't a recreation of the very same magically triumphant experience i had before which actually disappointed me, but i most certainly don't have the heart to rate it as a clear cut disappointment because it was still great as it was. The only common item i ordered the first time around and this time was the American corn cheese balls. I remember the cheese balls generously oozing out cheese with that slight hints of garlic and fresh herbs elevating the dish with the highlight of sweet corn, all floured and dusted and deep fried till it has that rich and buttery caramelized coating on the outside that cracks into a soft and oozy centre. But the ones i ate here were far too sweet and overpowered by corn entirely, and the taste of raw flour/semolina on the outside was a bit of an issue. The fries which were accompaniments to the cheese balls lacked seasoning and certainly didn't elevate the dish, but made me ask why they even existed on the very same plate as the cheese balls. I would've been happier had i been given a mildly spicy and creamy dip as an accompaniment that could've probably elevated the taste of the cheese balls. It was not a bad dish but it certainly disappointed me for what i expected. It was a forgettable affair. One thing i was familiar with cream stone was its ability to make gobsmacking and splendid sizzlers, and yes, my second order was that of the sizzler. I ordered the paneer ka baap sizzler. It was certainly an ingenious name, and honestly, it did deliver what it was entitled to deliver. It was rich, pleasantly spicy, harmoniously balanced for most part. The issue again was with the potatoes. This time the potato wedges which, on paper, technically, had a role to play as the crunchy and mellowing element from the robust heat and flavours of the rest of the elements in the sizzler. It lacked seasoning, texture and flavour. And no surprise if i left it off the plate and consumed the rest. The paneer tikka of various flavours was nice but I would've been happier if the paneer was charred with all the robust marination, to perfection. The char gives that bitter and moreish edge to the succulently flavoured paneer pieces, and with that missing out, it was a slight sadness. The rest of the dish was a happy one and it satisfied me to my core. With all that said and done, generosity and flavours weren't that great of an issue and such things can be liberally overlooking, especially, when one is not paying as much as i paid for the food here. The corn cheese balls priced at 310 was the biggest disappointment. And priced at 575, the sizzler was certainly not worth the price. These ridiculously priced foods weren't the great disappointment because it made me left wanting more especially with the memories i previously made with cream centre in Bengaluru. It's not a must go for those have known the taste of it in other cities, but for first timers, you may not be disappointed when it comes to the taste, but just keep your expectation low and your pockets deep enough to fill two wallets of money to feed your loved ones.
