3/5 Stars: A Goan Culinary Quest with Average Results. We visited Cafe S. F. Xavier in Mapusa, specifically on the recommendation of a popular YouTube video, aiming to sample authentic, old-school Goan cuisine. The place holds a certain charm, but overall, the experience was mixed. The Food:. We started with the famous Ras Omelette, which was served alongside soft and fresh pav. The pav was definitely a highlight—perfectly soft and enjoyable. For our mains, we ordered the Chicken Xacuti and the Chicken Cafreal. Unfortunately, the taste was distinctly average. While the preparation seemed authentic, the flavors didn't quite pop. It’s entirely possible that this is the real, deeply local taste, but for me, it didn't feel "sparkling." I found the overall experience to be okay-okay. We finished with the Caramel Custard, which was also just "okay-okay"—nothing exceptional that would make it a must-try. The coffee was also a minor disappointment; it wasn't particularly good. Menu Observation & Logistics:. A quick look at the menu revealed they have notably more options in beef compared to chicken, which might be something to consider depending on your preference. Parking is definitely a challenge; it’s not available near the cafe, and you have to park outside and walk a short distance. Verdict:. Cafe S. F. Xavier is a decent, no-frills local eatery, but perhaps my expectations were too high, having come specifically after a recommendation.
