Barun Hotel is one of the well-known eateries in Siliguri and enjoys a strong reputation among locals. Located conveniently within the city, it is easy to reach and often remains busy, especially during peak meal hours. I have personally visited this place twice, which gave me a fair idea of its consistency and overall dining experience. One of the major highlights of Barun Hotel is its wide food availability and variety. The menu offers plenty of options, particularly for fish lovers. Almost every popular local fish preparation can be found here, making it an attractive choice for those who enjoy traditional Bengali-style non-vegetarian cuisine. The hotel follows standard food service timings and caters well to lunch and dinner crowds. However, from my personal perspective, most of the food preparations have a very strong and dominant flavour of garam masala. Nearly all the dishes carry this heavy spice profile, and unfortunately, even simple items like dal were not spared. The same issue was noticeable in the mutton preparation as well. The excessive use of garam masala tends to overshadow the natural taste of the mutton, taking away from its richness and depth, which could have been easily avoided with a more balanced approach. On a positive note, the place is hygienic and well-maintained, which adds to the comfort of dining here. In terms of pricing, I wouldn’t classify Barun Hotel as strictly budget-friendly, but it is also not too expensive. The prices feel reasonable considering the location, hygiene, and variety offered. Overall, Barun Hotel remains a popular local favourite with extensive menu options, especially for fish, though the heavy use of spices may not suit every palate.
