It's a popular dhaba just beside the Kalighat metro station. I have visited this place twice - once when I had brunch with Naan and hariyali kebab and recently I went there to have mixed fruit juice. Both were great in my experience. PROS: 1. Good value for money: The food portions are generous and prices are reasonable considering the quantity and quality. 2. Authentic “dhaba”‑style food: Dishes like Tadka Dal, Egg Tarka, Kebabs (Reshmi, Hariyali), Butter Naan / Lachha Paratha is praiseworthy. The food gives the kind of homely, rich flavour one expects from a dhaba. 3. Decent ambience & seating: They have AC and non‑AC sections, multiple floors, and generally clean interiors. It’s comfortable for casual dining, catching up with friends or family. 4. Wide variety: The menu is quite extensive: North Indian, Mughlai, some Chinese/Indo‑Chinese, different breads, etc. Half/full portions are available, which helps for smaller appetites. Besides, there is small fruit juice shop attached on the outer section. 5. Accessibility / location: Very convenient location (near Kalighat Metro), and it stays open until late (~ midnight), which adds to its popularity. CONS: 1. Service speed & consistency: While some dishes arrive quickly, others are delayed; sometimes the staff are slow to attend tables. This seems more pronounced during peak times when the place is highly crowded. 2. Hygiene / maintenance in some areas: Sometimes the ground floor or washbasin areas not being as neat, especially in entrance or high‑traffic zones. Also, during very busy times, cleanliness may slip a bit. OVERALL VERDICT: Great option if you want good North Indian / Punjabi‑dhaba style food in a mid‑budget place in South Kolkata. Best during non‑peak hours — if you go around lunch or dinner rush, expect a crowd and slower service. For dine‑in better than delivery — the experience, portion, and flavour seem to hold up more when you eat there, rather than ordering in. We tried Rumali Roti, Chicken Bharta, Egg Tadka, Chicken Tikka Butter Masala and Green Salads. Each of every items are too much delicious. Even though I have never visited Bachan's Dhaba, I have ordered food online.I am an avid fan of their Chicken Biryani, Chicken Chaap and Chicken Tikka Butter Masala.The food is affordable yet delicious.The food is spicy,like most Punjabi dishes but isn't too oily.I also tried their Tandoori roti and Egg Tadka.
