Review: Baati Chokha Restaurant, Kolkata If you’re craving the authentic flavors of rural Uttar Pradesh and Bihar right in the heart of Kolkata, Baati Chokha Restaurant is a must-visit gem. Tucked away in the city’s buzzing food landscape, this purely vegetarian spot offers a soulful dive into traditional North Indian cuisine — especially the classic combo of baati, chokha, dal, and desi ghee. Ambience: Rustic and earthy vibes greet you the moment you walk in. The decor is inspired by village life — think mud walls, charpoys, and clay utensils. It’s simple yet charming, transporting you straight to a North Indian countryside dhabha. Food: The signature Baati Chokha thali is the star here. Baatis are baked to perfection — crispy outside and soft inside, served with a generous helping of aromatic dal and the smoky chokha (a mashed blend of roasted brinjal, tomato, and spices). Don’t miss the sattu paratha, litti chokha, and the gud (jaggery) with ghee for a sweet finish. Everything tastes fresh, wholesome, and full of that homemade touch. Portions are hearty, and flavors are rich without being greasy. ‍ Service: The staff is polite and attentive, often happy to explain the dishes if you’re unfamiliar. Service is reasonably quick, even during peak hours. Value for Money: Very reasonably priced, especially for the quality and quantity. Perfect for families, students, or anyone looking to enjoy a satisfying traditional meal on a budget. ⸻ Verdict: 5/5 Baati Chokha Restaurant is more than just a meal — it’s an experience. A must-try if you’re a fan of regional Indian cuisine or just looking to explore something unique and comforting in Kolkata. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ₹200–400 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian offerings: Menu is all vegetarian

We really had great experience at this place. This is for the ones who want to taste variety of dishes and unlimited vegetarian food. A big thumbs up for their unlimited thali @499 (worth it) We took 2 separate thali’s : Baati chokha thali and Roti thali You can share along if you take 1 thali/person. Both thali includes buttermilk, starters and dessert - 5/5 Baati chokha thali gives you 3 varieties of baati (which could have been better due to its outer layer) - 4/5 Whereas in Roti thali there’s ghee roti along with paneer curry, veg curry and dal with rice and papad which was amazing. - 5/5 Ambience and staff - village theme and pleasant atmosphere with courteous staff. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: ₹400–600 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian offerings: Menu is all vegetarian
