Horrible experience. I am not one to usually leave a review, but the food and experience was really bad that I have to leave one. I went to Bread & Chocolate for their breakfast. We ordered a Summertime Tartine, Pancake, an Irish iced coffee and an Almond Croissant. All three dishes tasted bad. The croissant was dry and did not taste fresh. It only appeared to look great. The poached eggs on the summertime tartine was full cooked and the sourdough bread was very soggy and I ended up wasting most of it. The drink also was very basic, nothing great about it. We ended up complaining to the staff and they mentioned that they are unable to do anything since all the produce comes from their Auroville branch and that it is standardised. I was also asked to leave a review on my experience here. I definitely don’t recommend this place to anyone unless they’re just going there for the aesthetic pictures/ for the vibe. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience at Bread & Chocolate didn’t meet your expectations, and we appreciate the opportunity to respond with care and transparency. At Bread & Chocolate, our menu is built on the foundation of respect — for our ingredients, for our farmers, and for every guest who walks through our doors. Each dish is crafted using organic, seasonal produce sourced from our partners in Auroville and surrounding farms, including artisan sourdough breads, Mason & Co.’s bean-to-bar chocolate, handmade pastries, and locally made cheeses — all prepared fresh each day by our dedicated team. We take great pride in the Summertime Tartine, which features organic sourdough baked with natural leavening, served with carefully poached eggs — though we understand your eggs were not to your liking, which is certainly not our standard. Similarly, our Almond Croissants, made with pure French-style laminated dough and filled with in-house almond cream, are among our most loved offerings. We’re sorry to hear they didn’t arrive at their best that day. Our Irish Iced Coffee is brewed using specialty beans from Subko, a roastery known for traceable, small-lot coffees — and while taste is subjective, we aim to bring out nuanced, high-quality flavor in every cup. Your comment that our team was “unable to do anything” is surprising, as guest experience and accountability are central to our ethos. While it’s true that ingredient quality is consistent due to our supply chain being rooted in Auroville, we are always open to addressing concerns on the spot — and we regret if that didn’t come across clearly during your visit. That said, while we’re saddened that you wouldn’t recommend us, we’re also grateful for the honest feedback. It holds us accountable to uphold the craftsmanship, transparency, and community-rooted ethos we’re known for — values that go far beyond just aesthetics or ambience. We wish you better experiences ahead, and should you choose to return, we’d be happy to personally host you and ensure everything meets the standards we stand by. Warmly, Team Bread & Chocolate Pondicherry
