It is the best place near Jagannath Temple. Taste nicely cooked gat. A lot of visitors point out that the staff is accommodating at this restaurant. Guests mention that the service is good here. But many clients who use Google didn't give Assam Jatri Niwas a high rating.

If hell had a budget hotel in Puri, it would be Assam Jatiya Niwas. The name might sound peaceful and welcoming — especially to someone from Assam like me — but let me save you the trauma: DO NOT. FALL. FOR IT. I stayed here with my mom and grandma thinking we’ll find comfort in a place that represents Assam in a holy city. But what we got instead was a mentally exhausting, emotionally disgusting, and physically uncomfortable experience that deserves to be exposed. First off, the room was a total disaster. Broken switches, non-working calling bells, beds that felt like concrete slabs, and an ambiance that literally screamed “run away while you can.” The photos online were a straight-up scam — it looked nothing like what was promised. And the TOILET. Bhai sun — itna ganda, unhygienic, and horrifying tha ki even public railway station wale toilet usse better lagne lage. There was no proper flush, the floor was sticky and slippery at the same time (don’t ask how), and the smell? It could knock out a goat. Main toh andar ghusna bhi avoid kiya, kyunki lag raha tha ek baar gaya toh wapas insaan banke nahi niklungaa. But wait, there's more. I lost my ₹3,000 headphones inside the hotel. When I asked the staff to check the CCTV, they straight-up refused. No concern, no help, nothing. Just cold shrugs and “hum kuch nahi kar sakte.” It’s clear – they don’t give a single damn about your belongings or your safety. Staff ka behavior tha jaise hum unke free ke naukar ho. Basic manners missing, hospitality zero. And the vibe? Full-on racist. It really felt like because we were Assamese, they thought it was okay to treat us like trash. I came to Puri hoping for a spiritual experience. What I got instead was a reminder that sometimes, the worst part of travel isn't the journey, it's where you stay. Assam Jatiya Niwas was the biggest disappointment of the entire trip. Verdict: For cleanliness? 0/10 For respect? 0/10 For humanity? Still searching. For future bookings? NEVER again. One Star – only because zero isn’t allowed Service: 1

I visited Puri for the Rath Yatra in July first week. Since I was looking for a stay nearby the Jagannath temple so I opted to stay at Assam Jatri Niwas. This lodge is 3 min walkable distance to the temple. But the experience there was not a very pleasant one. The owner by the name of some mahapatra claimed to be a panda and he keeps on asking to offer bhog to Jagganath temple from all the visitors. We thinking him to be a genuine panda opted to offer bhog and accordingly paid him around 6000 rupees. But surprisingly after paying the money his behaviour suddenly changed. He started ignoring us .And he did not inform us whether the bhog was offered at Jagannath nor did he offered us any prasadam. We feel cheated and urge all not to fall in these kinds of traps. Well for the rooms in the niwas it is available for Rs 1000 for non-ac and Rs 1500 for ac rooms. The rooms are okay although the bathrooms has some problems with drainage. There is also a dining hall and one can have breakfast and dinner. In all you can explore other options if available. Service: 2
