The Lake Palace, formerly known as Jag Niwas, is a hotel of 83 rooms and suites constructed of white stone. It is built on a four-acre scenic base on Jag Niwas Island in Lake Pichola in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The hotel provides a speed boat facility to its guests which transports the guests from the city to the hotel. It was initially called Jagnivas or Jan Nivas, after the name of its founder. The palace was constructed facing east, so that its inhabitants could pray to the Hindu sun god Surya at dawn. Later rulers used this palace as their summer resort, holding their royal courts in its courtyards with pillars, pillared terraces, fountains and gardens. UpgradeEdit Bhagwat Singh came up with the idea of converting the Jag Niwas Palace into the first luxury hotel of Udaipur. DD Contractor, an American artist, became the design consultant for this hotel project. The material received from DD provides information about the new Maharana of Udaipur and this project. This bar is located inside the Taj Lake Palace and is accessible only for in house guests. We had some drinks during our stay. It was a beautiful experience enjoying the traditional Rajasthani folk songs and dance while having a sip of very well made special 007 range of cocktails. As well has enjoying a drink by the side of the lake while glancing at the City Palace is an experience like no other.

Couldn't be any more snobbish, residents are the only people allowed to eat at these restaurants, so don't waste time reading up about it unless you are staying there. Funny how Taj was started as an alternate to the high society pretentious British Raj and ended up becoming just that.Taj is famous for making their staff work 16 hour days and not paying one bit of overtime, if you can resist don't patronize it, there are so many beautiful/reasonable places to stay in India and Udaipur.
