I am writing to raise a concern regarding the OPD canteen located at Gate No. 2. On my recent visit, I observed several issues that need immediate attention: 1. Improper Food Packaging: The food provided was not packed properly. As you can see in the attached image, the tray was loosely covered with a thin plastic sheet, which is neither hygienic nor secure for carrying food. This kind of packaging can easily lead to spillage, contamination, and ultimately, health hazards—especially concerning in a hospital environment. 2. No Online Payment Option: The canteen strictly accepts only cash payments. In today’s digital age, especially in a hospital setting where convenience and hygiene are crucial, the lack of digital payment options (like UPI, debit/credit cards) is highly inconvenient and outdated. This creates unnecessary trouble for patients, their families, and staff who may not carry cash. I kindly request that immediate action be taken to: • Ensure proper and hygienic food packaging. • Implement online payment systems to make transactions easier and more inclusive. Canteen is truly impressive, especially considering the sheer number of patients and visitors it serves daily—nearly 25,000 to 30,000 people. Despite such high footfall, the cleanliness is exceptionally well-maintained, making it a hygienic and comfortable place to eat. The quality of food is remarkable, with a focus on both taste and nutrition. The meals are freshly prepared, ensuring that patients and their attendants get healthy and wholesome options. Moreover, the pricing is quite reasonable, especially when compared to the quality and portion sizes served. What stands out most is the canteen’s dedication to cleanliness and food quality. In a hospital setting, where hygiene is of utmost importance, the AIIMS OPD canteen does a commendable job of maintaining high standards.
