‘1980’s A NOSTALGIC RESTAURANT’ with eight years experience of serving authentic Kerala Cuisine, has opened their new outlet at Dawood Bhai Kapasi Road, Near Court Road, Kozhikode Beach. This restaurant, situated in an old traditional building is a throwback to the old Kerala style of housing known as the ‘nalukettu’ homes, which typically had four blocks built in all the four directions around a ‘nadumattam’ The nadumattam refers to an open courtyard within the house which was the focal point of family gatherings, interactions, activities, and festivities. The owner, Abu Salim, a famous Indian Malayalam actor, retired Police officer and a professional body builder and his team have kept utmost care in providing a Kerala themed experience, with attractive decor and apt settings along with a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere, without unwanted disturbances. After lot of deliberations, we finally decided to try their ‘Kerala Sadya’ along with a hot spicy prawns tawa fry. It was definitely high-quality food that sits at par with the standards of the restaurant. Sadya is a meal of Kerala origin and of importance to all Malayalis, consisting of a variety of traditional vegetarian dishes usually served on a banana leaf in Kerala as lunch. Sadya means banquet in Malayalam and is typically served as a traditional feast. There are variations in the menu depending on the place and religion. Some communities, especially those in the northern part of Kerala, include non-vegetarian dishes in the sadya. The main dish is plain boiled rice, served along with other curries, Koottaan which include curries like parippu, sambar, rasam, pulisseri and others like kaalan, avial, thoran, olan, pachadi, kichadi, koottukari, erissery, mango pickle, injipuli, mezhukkupuratti, naranga achaar as well as papadam, plantain chips, sharkara upperi, banana, plain curd and buttermilk, and finally to end with the traditional dessert called payasam So don’t wait and just try the place out !
