Kolhapuri Mutton Taat -Rs.410 Shetkari Non Veg, Singhad Road, Pune Kolhapuri $$$$ 17.10.24 Tonight I'm going with @headovermeals1820 recommendation for Kolhapuri cuisine. A person whom I met suggested Shetkari Non Veg but I wanted to do my own research. I travelled 18km for 80 mins to Kolhapuri Katta only to find that it had shifted. Now I'm definitely not going on a wild goose chase at 10pm so I decided to play it safe & try out Shetkari. It took me 10 mins to locate this 25 years old establishment as it was not in a market area but inside a gully & I actually thought it was someone's home when a gentleman welcomed me inside. I entered & once again it was a no nonsense kind of place. It was more like eating in a friends house. Anyway this is how exactly I like them. I took a seat & the menu on the table was very limited. Another good sign. It had a plain thali each for mutton & chicken, a special thali for both, a special veg thali & an egg curry thali. By the way in Kolhapur a thali is called a Taat. I decided on a plain Mutton Taat which after reading the menu was by no accounts a plain one as it had Mutton Sukka, Mutton Keema, Half egg curry, Bhakri (Jowar) roti, Chapati, Chicken Goli Pulao, Tambada Rassa, Pandhara Rassa, Dahikhanda & lime. Anyway this is as authentic kolhapuri as it can get. The food arrived & it looked robust & sturdy fit for warriors from the 2nd Maratha capital. The bhakri is a hearthy jowar bread. The mutton Sukka had 7 pcs including 2 pcs of kaleji (liver). The crunchy birista on top added to the texture. It was simply delectable. The mutton keema again didn't disappoint. Even the egg curry tasted special. The Tambada & Pandhara Rassa synonymous with kolhapuri cuisine were mild & spicy soups. I had a chapati & even that was excellent. I was so full that I could just taste a few spoons of the chicken goli pulao. The Dahikhanda somewhat gave me Chennai vibes. Even celebrities like Lata Mangeshkar & her sisters have also dined here. Overall another authentic & very enjoyable experience. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ₹400–600 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3 Recommended dishes: Mutton Thali
